Cranberry Sauce Recipe

Home made, simple to make, and far more flavorful than the canned variety!

cranberries on treeYour cranberry sauce can be prepared about an hour or so before your turkey is done. And while this is a tiny bit more work than opening a can, the results far outweigh the extra effort!

Ingredients:

  • one bag of frozen or fresh cranberries (1 1/2 cups)
  • between 3/4 and 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • zest of one orange (finely grated orange rind)
  • juice squeezed from one orange

cranberries in potPlace cranberries in saucepan. Add water and sugar. We prefer a slightly tart sauce so use less sugar. Plus we are concerned about sugar intake. If you prefer your sauce to be sweeter, use more sugar. Bring to a boil. Add orange zest and juice. Turn heat down and let simmer until the berries are well broken and most of the liquid has boiled off. Remove from heat and let cool.

So you see, when we talk about how simple it is to make your own sauce, we're not kidding.

Easy and delicious!
