Charlies Story

(Phoenix)

When I was preparing to go into the Air Force, after I graduate from High School I found out that I had a heart murmur at my physical for the Air Force. They classified me as a Four F.

I tried many other branches of the service and I was declined in all of them. All of my friends went into service and it was kinda hard to understand why I really was not able to go also.

Any how, just a few weeks after my graduation from high school I had open heart surgery at the University of Iowa Hospital.

I had the surgery and the Drs. advised me that I had a 50/50 chance of survival. I took the chance and the surgery went well. That was 51 years ago.

I have been active all of my life swimming, biking, having hobbies etc. Never did smoke or drink or do social drugs.

This year I celebrate 50 years of marriage and 51 years of heart surgery.

I have 3 children and 10 grandchildren. The oldest will graduate from Creighton Medical school in Omaha Neb, next May.

Hope I have been an inspiration for others. Charlie
